Documentary budgets vary with the scope of the story, so we quote each project individually. The main cost factors are the finished length, the research and pre-production involved, the number of shoot days and locations, any travel, whether you want aerial drone footage, and the scope of post-production, such as editing, color grading, sound design and music. Tell us about your story, goals and budget, and we will prepare a custom quote.
It depends on the project. The schedule is shaped by how much research the story needs, when your subjects are available for interviews and filming, how many locations and how much travel are involved, and how long editing and the rest of post-production take. We agree on a schedule with you during planning, so let us know early if you are working toward a premiere, launch or campaign date.
Yes. Our certified FAA Part 107 drone pilot can capture 6K aerial footage to add scale and context to your story, and flights are planned to comply with FAA rules and airspace requirements. Some locations add their own rules: Massachusetts DCR properties generally require a special use permit for drone take-offs and landings, drones are generally prohibited in National Park System units, and the City of Boston film office refers drone filming questions to the FAA.
After filming, your footage moves into post-production, where the story takes its final shape. We edit it into a smooth narrative, color grade it for a consistent cinematic look, and add sound design and music that support the mood of the story. Let us know how and where you plan to share your documentary so we can plan the edit around your audience.
Yes. Our independent campaign documentary, The Untold Story of the American Dairy Farmer, shares the struggles and strength of America’s dairy farmers, and you can watch the campaign video on this page. Our published work also includes a wedding film at Sopranos Casino by the Sea in Falmouth, MA, and we bring over five years of experience working with clients across real estate, tourism and entertainment.
Often, yes. On Massachusetts DCR property, including state parks, beaches and reservations, commercial activity requires a DCR permit, and drone take-offs or landings require a special use permit. At Cape Cod National Seashore, filming needs a permit if it uses closed areas, needs exclusive use of a site, uses sets or staging beyond handheld gear, or involves more than eight people, and drones need the superintendent’s written approval. Share your locations early so permit needs can be reviewed during planning. Approval is never guaranteed.
